Son of My Right Hand

Today is the 14th birthday of our third son. His name means "son of my right hand." And that he is! He is always the helper in the house, most always cheerfully. He is our little farmer at heart, and he loves learning and reading about anything to do with farming. He goes to Mummus and does her wood for her every day, and likes to sit and visit with her. Always looking for a little nugget of wisdom.
So thankful to have such a funny, helpful, thoughtful son! We love you!

True Beauty

Are you beautiful? What is your view of beauty?

“Do not let your adorning be external -
the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry,
or the clothing you wear. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. -

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? I often see things that I don't like. I see the extra weight that clings to me. I see the blemish I may have woken up with. I see that I don't measure up to what is often defined as beauty. My husband overlooks all of these things. He sees beauty. Why do we see through different eyes?

What does our heavenly Father see? What does He say about beauty?

Proverbs 31:30 ~ "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."

Psalm 45:11 ~ "The King is enthralled by your beauty; honor Him, for He is your Lord."

1 Samuel 16:7 ~ "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

James 1:23 ~ "Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror."

God looks at us and sees beauty. The beauty that He created! If we are serving Him and living for Him, how beautiful that is to Him. Our loved ones look at us and see beauty. Why then is it so difficult for us to love what we see in the mirror, the reflection is just part of the reason we are so loved and treasured by them.

God's word says that He looks for a "quiet, gentle spirit." To Him, this is beauty. It is a meekness that doesn't look for attention, especially attention based on our outward appearance. I found this quote by Sharon, "A quiet and gentle spirit does not equal a bland personality–it’s simply an anchor that enhances your God-given uniqueness, so embrace it!" Often we may meet someone, and know that there is something special and unique about them. It is often due to their gentle spirit. They seem to be set apart from others. That is my desire. To be set apart because I have a gentle spirit, because of obedience to Him and His word. In Phillipians, we are told "Let your gentleness be evident to all."

The most beautiful women are Godly women, who are living by His word. Continue to read the Word, and grow into the beautiful woman that God has created you to be! Remember ~ He is enthralled by your beauty! Honor Him!

You Never Know What I'll Bring Home

Went to pick up some prescriptions today, and came home with four chickens! Hahaha just couldn't resist! While waiting for the pharmacy to get things ready with my daughters inhaler, we decided to go to the farm stand. Well, they had some chickens for sale! We recently ordered some chicks, which will come in May. But it takes so long to get that first egg, so we've talked about possibly getting some chickens that are closer to laying. These should start within the next two to four weeks. Yay! Nothing like fresh eggs! The kids are excited, and trying to think of chicken names! Haha. Any suggestions?

Ask How You Can Be Used

Sunday we heard a wonderful message from the pulpit. It was a message that contained a great testimony of a great man of God. He is an elderly man in our congregation. His zest for all things of the Lord is such an encouragement. He told of the things that God has done in his life over the many decades of walking with Him. He challenged us all to find out what God wants us to do for Him, and to DO IT!
He said that when we accept Christ, that is just the first step in our walk. Many stay at this step, and never see what it is the Lord has for us. We may be saved, and go to heaven, but there is so much more tat God wants to do through us, if we just ask Him to show us and to use us.
I loved his analogy. He said to picture $1,000.00 sitting on the table in front of us. When we are saved, it is like getting $100.00. God wants to give us the other $900.00, and it's free for the asking . . . . but you have to ask to receive it. There's more to our walk . . . and that more, is the other $900.00! Ask what we can do, ask how we can be used. Don't be satisfied with just $100.00, when God wants you to have $1,000.00!
I know I didn't explain it as well as he did! I know hearing the life of this man, and the strong faith he has, was such a moving testimony. What God had done for him, and seeing how faithful he has been to look for the things of God. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Even my husband said he doesn't remember the last time he was so moved to weep by a speaker.
It's amazing how many are satisfied to just sit in their pews, and not grow and want to serve on a deeper level.
He told us that the best way he can sum up the Christian walk to someone is "IT WORKS." He would hold up his Bible and say again and again, after each struggle, after each blessing, God was always there for him and "It works".
Don't be content to accept your $100.00 and tread water the rest of your life. Ask what God wants you to do, ask how you can be used. Otherwise, you will never know what you missed out on ~ the amazing things God wanted you to do. Be a vessel ~ one that is willing to overflow and touch others!

He Will Make A Way

God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way
He will make a way

We sang this a lot in church at one point. Haven't thought of this song for a long time, and it came to me tonight. Sometimes people will disappoint us, let us down, hurt us, but I am so thankful that I have a God that loves me! One that cares enough to make a way for me! Love that He is there . . . . holding us closely to His side. What would I do without Him?
Isaiah 41:13 ~ "For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee."
Just needed to remind myself that He is there. He never leaves my side. Through the good and the bad. Who better than the maker of the Heavens and the earth? The One who fashioned me and knew me before anyone else? The One who placed each star in the sky and who made each flower, each color, each bird that sings. The One who blessed me with the perfect mate and my wonderful children. The One who gave His precious son to die for me? He will never leave us or forsake us. He is our refuge and our strength. Praise be to Him and Him alone.

It's The Little Things in Life

Tonight we had our first fire of the season. And of course, marshmallows! (Oh, notice my giant marshmallows?? I put a "normal" marshmallow and one of the giant ones on the stick for contrast.)

The Handiwork of God

Another Mundane Monday

"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
Mondays can tend to be mundane . . . . the catching up on things after a busy or fun weekend. I need to try to remember to do ALL things HEARTILY, as to the Lord.
I am realizing that life is too short, and that we need to find more joy in the simple, everyday tasks that we do. I am thankful that I have the ability to do them. I am thankful that I can school my children at home, that I have running water and a washing machine to use! Thankful that I have a sink full of dishes, because it means that we have food to eat. Thankful, and so very blessed!

I found the lyrics to this song, by S.C. Kird and Grant C. Tuller, and thought I'd add it to this post.

Hear ye the Master’s call, “Give Me thy best!”
For, be it great or small, that is His test.
Do then the best you can, not for reward,
Not for the praise of men, but for the Lord.
Refrain:
Every work for Jesus will be blest,
But He asks from everyone his best.
Our talents may be few, these may be small,
But unto Him is due our best, our all.
Wait not for men to laud, heed not their slight;
Winning the smile of God brings its delight!
Aiding the good and true ne’er goes unblest,
All that we think or do, be it the best.
Night soon comes on apace, day hastens by;
Workman and work must face testing on high.
Oh, may we in that day find rest, sweet rest,
Which God has promised those who do their best.
