Looking Ahead ~ 2013

Another year has ended, a new one begins. I am thankful for each moment that I had in 2012 ~ I felt blessed in so many ways, shared so many wonderful experiences, yet I know that I have witnessed many of my imperfections in the last year.  I am thankful that I've seen growth and He has been my Light through it all.   Let's press toward the mark ~ seeking that which has an eternal value.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-24

"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;  persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

"Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:12-14

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable." 1 Corinthians 9:24-25

"Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Isaiah 40:28-31

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.  Phil. 4:8"

He Cares For You!

For those of you fighting discouragement, remember there is One who loves you and cares for you! When it seems no one is there, He is there like no other.

Challenge ~

I found this little challenge and thought it would be a great way to stay on schedule and stay accountable and in the Word while starting a new teaching year at home. Looks like fun! Wanna join me??

Repurposing Furniture ~

Our tv room tends to be the hang out area for the kids. We got a new tv a couple of years ago, and we needed something underneath it to hold the DirecTv box, etc. I moved this small table temporarily out of the family room into here to house the box. It slowly became a too-small junk collector for the kids and all of their DVD's, etc. I've looked for new pieces of furniture every time I go to Home Goods, etc., and nothing has jumped out at me. Last week, I pulled into the garage and noticed a piece of furniture that had been packed away in there since winter from a storage auction that my husband went to. I decided it was the perfect size to house our DVD's, DVD player, DirecTv box and other miscellaneous items. I painted it black and moved it in over the weekend. I love it! I purchased a cord organizer that attached to the wall, and houses all of the ugly cords, so now to get my hubby to help me install that:) He and the boys don't think it's necessary, but I can't stand looking at all of the cords, and it's bothered me since the TV was initially hung:) Hopefully on Saturday, as it looks like a rainy day.

Lessons From a Hummingbird ~

This morning a little hummingbird got trapped in our foyer. The poor guy struggled and struggled to find it's way out, frantically hitting the ceiling. Finally, he fell to the floor exhausted, and couldn't even move. We set him out on our back step and watched him till he had the strength to fly away. I realized this is how we often are ~ we push and push, doing everything in our own power. Instead, we should stop and rely on Him to help us. He is in control, why is it often so hard to give it to Him, ask for His help in everything? Why does it often take us falling down exhausted to remember? He is there for us . . . . we only need to trust and call to Him. Thankful for this little reminder today:) "When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and rescues them from all their troubles." (Psalm 34:17)

Simple Blessings ~

Yesterday the kids came in at different times throughout the afternoon with flowers. Benjamin, a handful of gorgeous lilacs and Annika a sweet bouquet of sunny dandelions. Nothing like a little sunshine to brighten up the day:)

Another Teenager in the House!

Today was our sweet daughters 13th birthday! I truly can't believe how quickly the time has gone by. She is turning into a beautiful, kind, loving young lady. I pray that she continues to grow in the Lord and that she keeps her tender, sweet spirit.

I just love the sweet smile and the surprise on her face when a bouquet was delivered to the door for her. That's the best! And it was Daddy's idea that we send flowers. I think this is my favorite picture!

Annika asked for gummy bears for her birthday, and decided to cover her cake with them.

Annika chose Taco Salad Bowls as her birthday dinner.

Love her beautiful eyes.
